It has become the national darling of white wine. And it is certainly not picky. White wine made from or with Verdejo has given a huge boost to Spanish wine exports. Especially towards the Netherlands, where we have developed a strong preference for crisp, thirst-quenching, and not too heavy white wines. Exactly the kind produced particularly in Rueda, the wine region that is part of Castilla y León. Take this one from Condado Real. In it, Verdejo has been joined by the equally popular Viura. Together, they have formed a delightful alliance. One that treats the wine drinker to ripe apples, a hint of peach, a touch of green, and a coquettish citrus finish.
